Welcome to the Save Bedford Hospital Website

It was just over three months ago, on 17th September 2006 to be precise, that the "Save Bedford Hospital Campaign" was launched. It has certainly been a busy time, not just for me, but for my small, dedicated campaign team, and for the very many people who have been helping in a variety of different ways. For all the support that we have had, I am most grateful.

We have received massive publicity in local and national newspapers, on radio and on television. We have been featured in Private Eye magazine and in the Health Services Journal. Nor has it just been a local campaign, since many other hospitals share our sorry plight. I have recently been a guest speaker at the AGM of the Hertfordshire division of theBritish Medical Association, and next month I am talking to the Ipswich Medical Society.

The NHS is going through a most turbulent period. Patients need (and deserve) a comprehensive and effective local health service. They are also entitled to expect that the enormous amounts of tax payers money applied to the NHS each year are spent wisely, and not frittered away on unproven management initiatives, or on expensive, and sometimes ineffective, management consultants.

I am not a great expert on computers or on the internet, but I hope that this site will keep you informed as our campain progresses.
